It's A Famiy Affair - Yuri's Fun Run 5K

Image
It is truly a family affair when you sign everyone up for a race... and no one gets to ride in a stroller this time!  The kids were excited... but I think they didn't truly realize the distance they would be covering.  It was the first race in a long while for Victor, but he seemed excited to race, or maybe just happy we didn't have to share stroller pushing duties anymore.  April 2013 I am not a morning person, but I am also the weirdo who likes to arrive early and just sit for a bit to wake up and get in race mode.  Doing that with family in tow would make for a VERY different kind of race morning.  The plan was to prep everything the night before so that all we had to do was get everyone up, dressed, and in the car.  They could eat breakfast in the car.  We turned the house upside down for race belts, set out clothes, shoes, and socks, water belts & nutrition, and then shuffled kids off to bed in preparation for the very early alarm. ...

Commitment Issues - Oh Look Another Race!

Dopey is done... in the past... and its time to look ahead to the next big thing on the list.  And I find that the list is truly blank.  Nothing.  I know me well enough to know that I need to keep the running train going or I will be starting all over again the next time I decide to race something/anything. So what's a girl to do?  Find another race... or rather, a race series.  I registered on a whim for the local Texas 5k Series.  Five races... 5ks... with the potential to improve my pace.  I didn't think this through well enough as Texas is H.O.T. during the summer and I'm basically signing up to train in the heat.  FINE.  YOU WIN TEXAS.  A few 5K races shouldn't kill me, but should keep me moving as I find the next RACE. The goal:  To Get Faster  April 16th is already on the calendar.  This is Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2020 race registration day.  The day after I raced, I couldn't imagine going...

Never Say Never - Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend

Never say “never”- Disney Marathon Weekend 2019 December 2014  I had just started working with a run coach in an effort to even be able to run to the end of my block.  I was a Couch to 5K dropout (twice) and knew this was going to take a human to keep me accountable.  I still remember my very first run workout in Training Peaks and the brief text exchange with Coach Melanie after.    Me- are you trying to kill me?  Coach- did you die?  Me- no, but that was rough. Coach- well it will be easier, stick to the plan Me- 😮 Had it not been for her patience and encouragement, I think I would have walked away immediately.   January 2015, I stood a long side the course of the Chevron Houston marathon cheering on friends and thought to myself that maybe one day I could run a 10k or even a half marathon, but a full marathon is just crazy. A month of beginner run training under my belt and a little bit of hope... maybe. ...
